Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light, also known as IPL.
How does IPL work?
Light energy from IPL is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, which then turns to heat and destroys the hair cells.
How long will it take before I start to see results?
Most customers begin to notice a reduction of hair after just 3–4 treatments, with complete results after 12 treatments. Results vary from person to person.
How often do I need to use it?
We recommend using your handset once a week for the first 12 weeks. After this period, use your handset once a month for 3 months or until satisfied. To maintain smooth, hairless skin, use your handset once every 2–3 months, or as needed. There is no need to use it more than once a week, as IPL is only effective in the growing phase of your hair cycle.
Which areas of the body can I use it on?
You can use your handset on your entire body, including Brazilian and facial areas (just be sure not to get too close to your eyes).
Does IPL work on all hair colours?
IPL relies on melanin in the hair absorbing the light energy and is not effective on very light blonde, red, or grey hairs.
Is IPL safe for all skin tones?
IPL is suitable for all but the darkest skin tones. The light energy may be more attracted to skin pigments rather than hair melanin on very dark skin. Please refer to our skin-tone chart to see if IPL is suitable for you.
Does IPL remove hair permanently?
While IPL provides long-lasting reduction, all treatments require maintenance. After the initial sessions, you’ll need to use your handset once every 3 months to maintain smooth, hairless skin.
Does IPL hurt?
One of IPL’s biggest advantages is its comfort—most customers describe it as a warm sensation on the skin, far less painful than other hair‐removal methods.
Is IPL safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. Our handsets are designed for at-home use and are gentle on sensitive skin types.
Are there any side effects from IPL?
Side effects are rare when used as recommended. Mild redness and swelling can occur but will quickly subside after treatment.
I have PCOS. Will IPL be suitable for me?
IPL works effectively on hormonal hair growth. Many PCOS customers report slower regrowth and reduced razor rash over time.
I have epilepsy. Is IPL safe for me to use?
IPL is not suitable for users with epilepsy.
Can I use my IPL handset over freckles or moles?
Do not use IPL over very dark freckles or moles. Light freckles are fine.
What hair removal methods can I use between treatments?
You may shave as needed. Do not wax, pluck, or epilate, as these remove the root—IPL targets the root to disable hair growth.
Can I share my handset with another person?
Yes—just clean the handset thoroughly after each use. Sharing may reduce the handset’s lifetime per user.
Do I need to wear eye protection?
No. Our handsets are equipped with safety sensors and will only flash when pressed fully against the skin. Still, avoid looking directly at the light during a flash.
How do I clean my handset?
After each use, power off and unplug the handset. Wipe with an alcohol or antibacterial pad, clean the light window, then let it dry completely before storing in a cool, dry place.
